Dark Forest Road

There’s a road – a way
through the emptiness inside me,
and I walk it everyday
on my own.

The street is desolate,
the soil cracked and dry;
Still, I walk it by myself
all the time.

Until you take my shaking hand
into the shadow land;
you walk in my footsteps,
and you follow me.

And I’ll lead you there, my love
but I don’t know that I can see
with tears in my eyes
the strange surprise
I know is waiting there for me

Be still, my love
I don’t think you have to wait for me;
bemused and depraved
as I fall in my grave
and you come tumbling after me.

There’s a darkness lingering
over the top of my head;
it chills, and it chokes
as my will it provokes
and stains my skin with red.

I was alone here
until you came around
but now we share
this cold, lonely ground…

And you take my shaking hand
into the shadow land;
you walk in my footsteps,
and you follow me.

And I’ll lead you there, my love
but I don’t know that I can see
with tears in my eyes
the strange surprise
I know is waiting there for me

Be still, my love
I don’t think you have to wait for me;
bemused and depraved
as I fall in my grave
and you come tumbling after me.
